Windows 7 Printer compatible with Epson Stylus cartridges

Hi, I wonder if anyone could help. I've just bought a new pc with Windows 7 on it. Unfortunately I've since realised that it is not compatible with my current Printer which is an Epson Stylus C44UX. I know I need to buy a new printer that is compatible with Windows 7 but I've got so many unused printer cartridges left and wondered if anyone knows of any printers I could buy on which I can still use the old cartridges. Many thanks. Lesley

Judging by that website, it seems that most of the inks are interchangable with other Epson printers.

  • Have you tried plugging it into the new PC to see if Windows update finds any drivers? I note that Epson support Vista drivers so it's likely that your printer will work. I recently installed a 7 year old Epson printer on a W7 computer and the drivers were automatically downloaded.

You will also probably be able to use your printer with Windows 7 if you install it in Compatability mode.

Uninstall any previous drivers you have tried.

Find the install file from the drivers on the disc or from the folder you have downloaded for it (it will be called install.exe or setup.exe)

Right click on the file and click on Run as Administrator

Right click on the file again and left click on Properties

Left click on the Compatability tab

Tick the box marked Run the Program in Compatability Mode For:

and choose the Windows XP (Service Pack 2) from the drop down box.

Click all the way out and then install the driver in the usual way.

It doesn't always work with everything but it did with my old Epson 1290 (8 years old now) until some new drivers appeared on the Epson website.

That's an old printer, isn't it? I remember having one of those ten years ago!

If I remember rightly there isn't much difference between the C44 and C44UX. The Microsoft website seems to indicate that this printer is compatible with Windows 7 -- both 32-bit and 64-bit versions:

Here's some info. from Epson on Windows 7 support. It seems to indicate that the Epson C44 (and presumably C44UX) can be added to Windows 7 via the "add printer" wizard, which will install a driver that's included with the OS.

  • Thanks to everyone. I will try David39's instructions to see if it works. Thanks SteveJH200 but unfortunately it doesnt work. ESUHL - it's only the C44 that works with Windows 7 because it is a 64 bit version. I really do appreciate all your input and quick responses. Many thanks. Lesley

I've got, Canon i560 and HP laserjet 1320, both at least 6 yo, running on Win7 Home Premium 64bit. Going through 'add printer' installed everything just fine.

    Move along, nothing to see.

    None taken, Spud.

The main thing is to get Snuggles up and running by one means or another.

Epson always seem to be slow in updating the drivers for their back-catalogue of printers. I had to use the compatability route for my old printer at first, but eventually they did catch up with a driver that worked from 7.
