Stamp Duty

I'm currently looking at houses as a first time buyer. The stamp duty holiday appears to expire on the 24th March. An estate agent suggest that it may be that the government may opt to extend this existing (or implement a similar holiday) before the current holiday expires.
Is it worth trying to beat the holiday or is it likely that there will be some form of new stamp duty break for first time buyers come March?

If you are in a position to buy and there's properties out there that suit you I wouldn't hang about on the chance they might extend.0

They said in November that it won't be extended because it didn't have the desired results. If you haven't yet decided on a house it's very unlikely you'll be in before the deadline and it's probably not worth rushing when choosing a house or you could end up stuck somewhere you hate.0

I've seen nothing to suggest the govt is even considering another break, and as previous poster said, they declared specifically that it wouldn't be extended. Some assiduous googling should find the relevant quotes for you.0

Assume you're paying 3% if you don't complete on, or before, 24 March. Anything which might come along after that will then be a bonus.I am a mortgage broker. The Stamp Duty holiday only applies to purchases of £250,000.00 or less so stamp duty will be 1%.0 -
Quite right. Slip of the fingers.
