Have 80,000 pound sitting waiting whilst I wait for my partner to sell her house, so could be 6 months could be 2 years. Whats the best place to put it?

Depends how much effort you want to put in (you can more %age, but they are typically limit by amount you can deposit, so you would have to spread the amount)

Saving is totally depend on your expenditure and how much money you can put into saving account.

Wherever you put it make sure you don't have more than £85K in total with that institution so it's fully protected, you may need to split it across two institutions. And as you don't know when you'll need it that rules out a lot of fixed term accounts, unless they allow early access (and then you'd have to decide whether the penalty for doing so reduces the interest paid to below what you'd get on an instant access or notice account).
