Rights with damage caused to home due to Metrolink works

I live very close to the work that is progressing in order to change the railway line that ran from Oldham to Rochdale into a Metrolink (tram) line.
In order to complete this work they need to do some piling work in order to set the foundations for the pilons that will carry the overhead cables.
Speaking to people who have lived in these houses for a while (1889 Terraced 2 up 2 down) I have found out that when piling work was done in the early 80's (to build a housing estate adjacent to our houses), due to the vibrations and subsequent ground movement, one house was damaged so badly it had to be torn down, other suffered due to the ground movement.
We are less than 150m from where the work is due to take place and understand that the ground the house is built on is very sandy anyway.
What redress would we have if our property was damaged in anyway due to this work?
Thanks.

[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

They would have to fix it. You might want to take photographic evidence before the work starts.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Be proactive.
Formal letter of concern stating your fears and previous damage caused by piling work.
Send by special delivery or deliver by hand and ask for receipt.
Get your local Councillors on board now and contact the local press.
The more people know about possible problems the better chance for redress should anything go wrong !

Approx 150m away, very much doubt it but its probably worth the cost of a stamp.0
