Is Kaspersky OK for a netbook?

My wife has a Dell Mini 10, it has an Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor and 1Gb of RAM. It has Vipre antivirus installed but the subscription has just run out. I have Kaspersky Internet Security on my desktop PC as it is free with my Barclays account, and I have two spare licences. Will the netbook be powerful enough to run Kaspersky, or should I be looking for a more lightweight antivirus? Ideally one that is free!

  • I use Kaspersky on my N140 Sammy (2GB) and it is no worse than Avast was (in some respects it is better i.e. quicker to boot to useful state)

  • I wouldn't run Kaspersky on a Netbook, great product but to intense for a low end Netbook.

Put something free and light on their like Microsoft security essentials.

I use it on my Samsung N130 and it runs fine, If you have 2 spare licenses why not try it and see.

Thanks for your replies folks. I did try to install Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 but it wouldn't install on the netbook, as it said a previous installation of Kaspersky still existed on there. I ran the official removal tool umpteen times but that didn't do the trick. I also looked at hacking the registry, following official Kaspersky instructions but it was all different so in the end I gave up. I have now installed the free version of AVG and that is running nicely. :)
