Ok thanks a lot, i'll stick with a desktop then! Would it be cheaper and better value for money to buy the parts individually and just build a computer?

not nessesarily cheaper, however i always believe you get a better system since you know exactly whats going into you system and can make it to suit what you want

Of course, the best TW games are the first two i.e. Shogun: Total War and Medieval: Total War. Being old they will have lower specs, but you would probably need to buy second hand.

The newer ones will require steam.

WE got the children one for Christmas (base unit keyboard & mouse) for £349 from Comet. The important part was a decent separate graphics card. It came pre-loaded with Windows 7. Seems to work well so far.

  • Perhaps its worth upgrading an existing system, or older one? I've upgraded my system with 8gb of this ram (reduced from £111, to £38 approx currently), and I'm looking at this graphics card.

I don't need to play the latest games, but a very good price for a gaming upgrade. My processors, an overclocked to 4gig dual core pentium, which will be fine with decent ram, and card.
    Oh well...

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/gaming-graphics-card-review,review-32352-7.html will help with getting a good enough graphics card, each level in the list gives equivalent levels of power provided by the cards

bare in mind that total war shogan 2 (the latest one) requires a nvidia GTS 240 or ATI 6570 (minimum says a 8600gs but i do not think it would give a good experience on that)
