If you are raising money for a registered charity, get in touch with them at an early stage. They may have helpful suggestions, and you need their permission to use their name in fundraising.

But the scary part is selling the tickets, and knowing you've sold them to people who will put their hands in their wallets.
This leads me to another thought: if you're a member of any organisation which organises concerts etc, then 'piggy-backing' on an event can work quite well. For example, DH has done a 2 minute slot in a local choir concert which was raising money for the charity.

Personally I think swishing requires a lot less work beforehand than an auction. Mind you we always call ours a 'clothes swap' so people know what to expect!!!

  • Hi - I've been helping raise money (and awareness) for a local Autism charity and after a few years, what I have found best is to go to events where there are already people - for example Summer Fetes, Farmers Markets, Local Carnivals etc.

Even the simplest stall doing a tombola will make more money and get to more people than organizing your own event and trying to get people to come.

The best money/effort solution we have found is a 'Chocolate Card Game'

    Get 2 packs of cards.

Take the picture cards and aces from 1 pack and put a selection of them (not all) face up on a table. On the cards put some chocolate (Celebrations, Quality Street - that kind of thing).

With the other cards, let people choose a card and if they have a picture or ace, they win the chocolate from the corresponding card on the table.

Sometimes its nice to have a grand prize on the ace of hearts (large box of chocs)

We found this easy to set up and fun to play - the kids LOVE it and you'll find loads of kids/parents coming to your stall (who can then be given a leaflet)

    Good luck!
