Belvita Breakfast Biscuits

I've never tried the Belvita biscuits so no idea if this would suffice, but I stumbled across a very healthy flapjacks when looking for a way to use up leftover apple sauce and they also do the job of keeping me full through till lunch.
If you want the exact recipe I can find it later, but basically you simply combine oats with apple sauce, some honey (optional) and any spicing you like (I use cinnamon, ground ginger and allspice). Can modify by adding sesame seeds, or any other seeds too I'm sure. Probably ground nuts would also work and although they do contain fat, are also high in protein which would keep you full. Mix up the lot and bake in tray in the oven until golden. Turn onto a rack to cool and voila - low fat oaty snack goodness!
Keeps for at least a week in the fridge in an airtight container.Proud to be a moneysaver0 -
What kind of full price are you paying? I know in shops they are expensive, but I buy box of 10 box on Amazon for £11.40 (free postage)
So it's £1.14 for box of 6... Is that good enough offer for you?
I do have to say though that I then have to hide it from my OH and bring them out box by box because otherwise I would have to buy new bulk box every month, perhaps even earlier!!0 -
TWENTY PENCE EACH FOR A BISCUIT? I'm far too tight to be paying anything like that. Not when a packet of Rich Teas in L!dl costs 30 pence, keeping you going until lunch-time or not.0

And B&T, box of 6 costs over £2 in shops!!
BTW, it's not just 1 biscuit you get in a pack:-)) Though, nowhere near the whole lot of Rich Teas!!
Skyvicky I know what you mean - I use them in emergency, when I had no breakfast ,at work or when I am in a rush. I find them delicious and they do keep me full till lunch, I usually don't need my eleven o'clock banana/biscuit with my coffee.0 -

Whenever I see the advert with the luscious Lisa Snowdon, I find myself saying out loud, "Might as well just have a digestive, love".
When I said that when they first got advertised here I got all sorts of people correcting me about all the extra things they had, don't expect to be listened to when you say what the emperor's new clothes really are.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Just a warning if you have diabetes - although these biscuits are marketed as 'healthy' according this

for every 100gms of biscuit, 25gms is sugar
Another good reason for making them yourself!
EDIT: Ooops, cross posted, sorry!I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
That's all right - I am not affraid of sugar, or biscuits. I just eat what I want when I want in balance.
Many people get hyped up that I actually have salt in my cupboard!!!
The reason I eat these is because I don't feel hungry for long after eating them, not sure why, but normal digestives (my other favourite vice) don't have the same effect on me.
So not everyone needs a lecture on the fact they are not "healthy" or as "healthy" or whatever.
They are nice, so I'll eat them. In fact I didn't know they are supposed to be "healthy" when I tasted them first (given pack by friend) and bought them, then I saw the advert and I have to agree, they keep me full. Though I have no dissillusion about the sugar - it is written on the pack, I am sure I checked calorie content and it wasn't anything amazing.0 -

I know what you're saying but your 11o'clock banana is a really valuable nutritious contribution to your daily diet!
So a piece of wholemeal toast first thing with a scrape of butter then a medium banana at 11am would be the same number of calories and nutritious.
Belvita biscuits are designed as a "balanced" breakfast suggestion when they are consumed in conjunction with a piece of fruit and a low fat yogurt. So that's Kraft's back covered!
I understand totally why they are attractive to consumers; they are Kraft's leading biscuit brand now and grossing £21 million in UK sales, but it is important to point out their short-comings too and that there is and always has been another way, as OP pointed out with her home-made idea!0 -

Diabetics can consume sugar with in reason, it all depends on control, energy out put etc (diabetic, studied diabetes with the OU).
All grains contain carbohydrates that are broken down by the body into the simplest form - sugar. So when packageing says sugar it can mean that.
Mind you if you make any biscuit they tend to have a fair bit of sugar in them.
Protein keeps you fuller longer so include protein in any breakfast and you feel fuller longer.Put the kettle on.0 -

I completely agree with you.
However!!! And it is important however - if I had to do everything you can do and is better for you from scratch all the time, I wouldn't be able to hold 45 hrs a week full time job, uni work and household.
I do most of the cooking from scratch for tea every night and lunch at weekends as well (when I am not at college) and work lunches, and I think that is the most important thing for balanced diet.
I am not a superhero, I occasionaly cheat, so shoot me. The bottom line is, that having a biscuit, without being made feel guilty for it is the least I deserve.
Don't take this as personal attack on your person, I don't mean it like that, I am just pointing out other aspects of life.
btw - the whole idea of having the biscuits in emergency is that I don't have the time for that toast occassionaly (or, I am ashamed to say, we just don't have any in the house as it's gone mouldy or shopping is that night) and/or banana in the first place!!!:rotfl:0
