Belvita Breakfast Biscuits

I wondered if anybody has tried to make these at home? I love them and bought loads when they were on offer, but I can't stomach paying full price.

They really fill me up til lunch and don't leave me starving. I have lost a stone since I started eating them for breakfast rather than skipping it altogether!

Does anybody have a good oaty biscuit recipe I could try to use as a starting point. Maybe Twinks hobnob recipe would be a good starting point?

  • I have seen these in the supermarket and wondered about trying them, what are they like? Do you have them with milk like W**tabix?

You just eat them, they are biscuits, MIL gave me a box of the yoghurt filled ones, scoffed them at work for tea as I have my dinner at lunch when doing 12 hour shifts and just usually have toast or fruit at night when finishing off!

  • Twinks hobnobs recipe is always a good starting-point for all your biscuit needs. I have rather a large stock of sunflower seeds and was thinking of making a variation of Twinks with those in.

What exactly do these "breakfast" biscuits contain other than the usual?

Whenever I see the advert with the luscious Lisa Snowdon, I find myself saying out loud, "Might as well just have a digestive, love".

I'm sure home-made will be better, especially if you can moderate the processed sugar, use oats/wholegrains and maybe add nuts/seeds/dry fruit to a hobnob/flapjack type recipe.
  • I don't know who Lisa Snowdon is but what I do know is that whenever I see that ad I have an overwhelming urge to give her a slap. I think it's the whole concept of "breakfast" biscuits I have a problem with. God only knows there are enough delicious and wholesome foods to eat first thing and biscuits aren't one of them. Those food manufacturers think they can dream up almost anything and someone will buy it and they're often right.

  • They are surprisingly more filling than hobnobs, and before I started eating them in the car on the way to work i didn't have breakfast at all!

Will try to have a play about with Twinks recipe and see how I get on. They have a lot of oats in them, so should be able to work something out hopefully!

  • Bronnie, I just read the link you posted. I see the point, however for me they work. I end up full until lunch time without feeling the need to pig out on other stuff. Because of this I have lost weight.

With a 3 year old to drop at nursery at 8am, and a full time job to be at by 8.30 there just isn't time in my morning routine to even grab a bowl of cereal. I always end up buying boxes and never finding the time to eat them!

Of course, whatever works for you! :)
  • What used to work for me, because I can't face food first thing and need at least a couple of hours before I can, is to have some Ryvitas in my desk-drawer. I used to prefer the dark rye or mixed-grain ones. I can eat them dry out of the packet as long as I have a cup of tea to go with them.
