I had kind of resigned myself to doing the new hours and taking the hit money wise but thought it was worth checking out. Such a shame it'll hardly be worth me working now - would actually not be much worse by giving up work. I've never been out of work though and I'd hate to think I was unemployed!

And I'd say value in YOU suggesting to THEM how it could work, perhaps including moving to a different dept.
But they may be wanting to move away from too many people on individual contracts: the workforce is a lot more flexible if everyone is doing four half shifts a week. When you have to accommodate those with special agreement to leave early on Mondays / only work full shifts on two days / come in late on a new moon then getting the right people in the right places becomes a bit of a nightmare.
Obviously I joke about the new moon, but you get the point.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thanks again for taking the time to respond.
I have suggested moving to different departments. Without saying specifically where I work, there are A LOT of employees in a lot of different depts but basically doing the same thing. So I could easily be moved. I've also said I could maybe compromise and go to 3 days which would be a lot better for me and not too much different from the next shift pattern of 20 hrs. (I do 16 hrs).
The annoying thing is, I know that they could accommodate me (because a family member works in the dept that plan the shifts) - obviously that info is of no official use to me but frustrating all the same!
Again, thanks for replying. Much appreciated.0
