Neighbour cat spraying in my conservatory!

Help!

There is a cat that I assume belongs to one of my neighbour's that keeps coming in through the cat flap and spraying in my conservatory .

It's driving me mad and I have no idea how to stop it doing it as my cat needs to be able to get in and out. I've thought about magnetic collars but my old cat that is set in his ways isn't happy with a collar.

Because my cat is a big softie he seems to have befriended this cat which has also taken to sleeping on the trampoline in my garden.

Where we used to live there was a stray cat that used to come in the house and spray in my kitchen and we ended up getting rspca to trap it.

I wish my cat wasn't so friendly some times :rotfl:

Any ideas?
It's only a bargain if you need it.

  • Google PetPorte but your cat will need to be chipped for it to work. Expensive solution but I have one and it`s great at keeping out the locals

    Get a water pistol?
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Hard one. Even if you find and speak to the neighbour who owns it, it will still be hard to stop it coming in unless they/you are willing to cat proof their garden or something. I'm not keen on microchip cat flaps as microchips can move, but it is an option if your cat is chipped and the chip hasn't moved.

In the meantime, if your cat is not objecting, is it worth putting a litter tray down and plug a feliway in? I know you shouldn't really have to but I'd be tempted to if there was a chance it would stop me having to clear up after the cheeky intruder.

It's a quick little !!!!!! so haven't able to scare it enough to stay away!

You're right about the neighbour. Even if I did find out who owned it there's not a lot that can be done as cats do what they want. I've seen it about 1/4 mile away so it really could belong to anyone!

Had a look at the pet porte. He was microchipped as a kitten and that has been fine. Would he need another microchip or does it work of his existing microchip? What if the other cat is microchipped, would it be able to gain access?

They are £70 and I think well worth it as the stink of cat pee is driving me mad!! I've been locking the cat flap at night for a while as he's only got one eye now so it's safer for him to be in at night anyway. The other morning I opened the cat flap and 5 minutes later I could smell it!!

I'm sure my cat goes and finds friends and brings them home!!!

  • Eh, maybe your cat is submissive and these friend-cats are dominating it. That's the spraying signal: it's scenting it's territory, telling you and your cat that it's top-cat and your house is theirs. You're going to need biological washing powder to clean everywhere it's sprayed to get rid of the scent. And then give it a really good reason to find elsewhere more attractive or it'll be a feline yoyo.
  • Even if the other cat is microchipped it won`t be able to get in through the PetPorte.
You have to 'programme' the Petporte so it will recognise the microchip of your own cat. Your cat just stands under it for a few seconds whilst you have it on the programme setting.
I would recommend one but you need to be patient when it comes to fitting it as you have to take the front off and put in a battery incase you ever have a powercut so there`s a few wires to be connected. The Petporte will also need to be located no more than 2.4 metres from a mains plug socket, otherwise you`ll have to buy the extension lead
