Would someone be kind enough to check some figures re Npower bill

I'll created a spreadsheet to keep track of costs of my gas and electric bills. My working out for the conversion of the meter readings to kWh for gas is the same as Npower, however when it come to working out how many units are charged at the higher and lower rate mine differs.
Therefore I was wondering if anyone would have a quick look at these figures to see if I'm going wrong.
Npower charges at a higher rate for the first 271 in October, first 882 in November, December and January.
My last bill was 23/10/2011 which leaves 8 days in October so:
271 / 31 (days in Oct) x 8 (days not on previous bill) = 70 units
882 for the whole of November = 882 units
882 for the whole of December = 882 units
until the reading taken on Monday 23rd Jan
so 882 for January so 882 / 31 (days in Jan) x 23 (to meter reading)
= 654
Which totals 2488
However on my bill I'm being charged for the first 2559 at the higher rate and the rest at the lower rate.
First time I'm done this as previously my ex husband would have sorted the bills so please be gentle with me if it's something blindingly obviously wrong I'm doing!!
Thanks

Are your readings estimated or actual?
How many gas units have you actually used between 23/10/11 and 23/01/12?0 -
Hi,
Both readings were actual and total used was 7063 of which I'm being charged 2559 at higher rate (7.864) and 4504 at lower rate (3.144).
Thanks0 -
Your theory and working out is correct.
One possible explanation is that the meter reading date and the bill date will be different, the bill date will be a few days later. Not too sure which date npower use to work out the higher rate. Try using your workings but use the two different dates and see if one of them tie in with npowers figures.0 -
Unlike the other Utilty Co's who charge the high price Kwh an a daily basis according to how many days the bill covers, n'power load them up in the winter months and reduce them in the Summer.
This why they charged 271 in October, then pushed it up to 882 in Nov/Dec/Jan0 -
notbritishgas - it's possible I suppose but the bill is only dated 2 days after the meter reading so would only be an extra 57 units but the difference between their calculations and mine is 71. The bill shows the meter reading date and the amount so would expect them to use this.
dogshome - my query was how they split the units between higher rate and lower rate as my calculations are different to theirs.0 -
OK Yorkie more maths for you to do, have alook at this thread which was talking about working out the number of days for standing charges, but the same could apply to tier 1 units

As I read it this could put an extra day on your calculations and if you use the "bill date" you may come close to the extra 71 units.0 -
Hi notbritishgas,
Thanks for the link. I'll have a look once I've eaten and started on my red wine!.0
