Santander current account application declined - Bad credit rating?

Hi there, today i went into Santander to open up an current account for my mum - (Going to use as a savings account)

Anyway, my application was declined, which is a complete shock to me. I don't have any miss payments according to experian, (no credit accounts in fact) Just 12 searches in a space of 1 month. (Yes i know, silly of me) got carried away. :o

The chap who did my application said i should get a copy of my credit report with Equifax - who i am yet to get this from, as problems with identifying me ect. Order the postal report so it will be interesting if there's anything on there which is affecting me getting credit. As it seems nearly all the companies use Equifax

So just to sum it up, 18 y/o from Dec 2011'/ I have a three sim deal, and just got accepted by Vanquis but neither showing up as credit accounts yet. - 12 searches in a space of a month.

The chap also told me that it could be my address also, anyone with a bad credit rating at the address could affect my ability to get credit, he said it shouldn't be like this but it is, and address's can get blacklisted?

Is he right?

thanks

You were given incorrect information - an address can not be blacklisted, only an individual at an address.

Also, I'd say Experian is more popular than Equifax - the products I applied for in the last 3 months all appear on Experian, only 1 credit search is present on Equifax, and 1 on Call credit.

Santander did an ID check for me on Equifax, and only a soft search on Experian, so sounds like you have failed the ID check. Are you on the electoral register? It also sounds like you don't really have much on your credit reports, which will also be an issue
Debt free and staying that way!

Who wanted to open an account, you or your mother? If the account is for your mother, it's her credit rating that counts.

All of that will be the problem, you need to not apply for anything else for at least the next 3 months (6 would be better). Check your credit report when it arrives, use the Vanquis card wisely! That is only spend what you need and pay it off in full each month. This should improve your credit rating and give you more chance of being accepted in the future. :)
