Replacing (very old) fuse box

Options
Hello all.

I currently have an old fuse box (the one with the large rewireable block fuses) I was thinking of having this updated to a modern fusebox.

1) because I was planning on redoing the kitchen which will require a rewire and then eventually redo the rest of the house wiring over time.

2) the fuse box is split in 2, half controls the the main house electrics and the other half controls the economy 7 heaters. this means that since moving / removing some of the heaters as economy 7 is of no use to me I have sockets I cannot use until after midnight.

Now I need to know how straight forward this is. can I simply have the fuse box replaced or would I need to rewire the whole house at the same time as well?
The new fuse box would do exactly the same job as the current fuse box, I would not be adding any additional circuits etc (apart from integrating the existing economy 7 wiring into the rest of the household circuitry)

Im sure this is very complex so feel free to educate me on the process

Thanks

When you have a new consumer unit (fuse box) fitted, the electrician should test all the existing and new circuits prior to fitting the new consumer unit to make sure the readings are within specification.

If some parts of the wiring are very old or go through damp walls, you may find that it will trip the RCD/RCBO.

In answer to your question about converting Economy 7 sockets to normal 24 hour sockets, yes that is possible. The electrician will simply re-wire those sockets from the Economy 7 supply to the permanent 24 hour/continuous supply

I am not an electrician but do have an old terraced house which had an old style fuse box. This was replaced nearly 2 years ago without any major work needed and it is working fine.
