Problems with painting interior wall

Mmmmmm.
I have just painted two walls in my bedroom.
One of them has a couple of patches of other colours on where I was testing. I've noticed that where I've tried to paint over one patch, it isn't sticking and the paint is smearing. (Does this make sense).
It's all the same type and brand of paint, just different colours.
The test patch was meant to be duck egg blue but dried a dark turquoise and I'm trying to paint a dusky pink over it. I know I'm likely to need a 2nd coat anyway, but does anyone have any advice about painting the dodgy patch? It's large (about 30cm sq). As I say, the paint has gone over the other patch just fine.

sand it down with a sanding block. (wrap some sandpaper around a block of wood).
using a block will keep it more level.
then clean the area with sugar soap.
then try again.Get some gorm.0 -
Thanks ormus. Should I wait to see if it dries any further or just do it straight away? The rest of the walls are virtually dry.0

I would wait until it's fully dry and see what's what then.
Are you using a roller or brush and what paint are you using?
Once fully dry, if you are lucky, a second coat applied with a roller may cover the lot without the need to employ corrective elbow grease0 -
Thanks Chunks. I'm using Wilkinson's own brand paint. I know it has mixed reviews online.
I used a paint brush but have got a roller and will see what happens with that, as you suggest. The rest of the paint has dried. It's now just the section covering the turquoise that is still wet. I am determined not to let this beat me. I WILL have 2 dry pink Walls at the end of this!!!0 -
Never used Wilkos paint myself. Not the choice of professionals I suspect
but needs must.
I personally use a roller and cut in with a brush for the bits the roller cannot get at etc. You can get splash guards if your paint is on the 'flicky' side. Not much money. So long as you cover up the bits you don't want paint on (including you) a roller will give you a much better finish.
I used to use paint pads for years (rub the loaded pad over the wall and finish off with a dabbing motion to get a very slightly textured effect). Good for keeping bingo wings at bay.....! Once I got rolling however, the paint pads got the elbow.
Good luck with your (soon to be) totally pink paradise.

Thanks CHunks. I bought a roller. Saw the paint pads but thought a roller might cover more quickly. Have just done a second coat and can't believe how much more easily and quickly the paint went on. It hasn't dried yet, but I could see how much better the coverage was. So far the Wilkos paint seems fine... The turquiose patch had finally dried over night and was fairly visible under the 1st coat of paint. Hopefully this will dry beautifully, or I'll be getting out the sugar soap next!
Lesson: don't paint walls with a brush!
Thansk for the advice, ormus and chucks0
