Scanning problems, please help

Hi Guys,

I've just installed my new CanoScan LiDE 110 into my MacBook OS X Version 10.6.8. I followed instructions and all seemed to be great. Plugged in scanner to MacBook via USB cable but when I try to scan a photo I get the following message:

Cannot communicate with scanner.
Cable may be disconnected or scanner may be turned off.
Check status.
Scanner driver will be closed.

Now the first thing I though was the scanner was turned off, but there is no on / off button! I've unlocked the scanner button as per instruction notes.

I went through the troubleshooting in the manual & checked the USB Device Tree on my MacBook. As CanoScan was not there, I followed instructions, deleted scangear, restarted computer and manually re-installed it. When checking the USB Device Tree, it's still not there and and still can't scan.

Anyone got any suggestions what I should do now. According to the instructions, the scanner should work with my MacBook.

Thanks for your help.

Is the scanner software installed OK on the MacBook and have you checked it's the latest version?

    Hi Masonn,

At a glance, it looks to be installed ok on the MacBook - the icons are there which gives me the option to scan. However, I get the error message "no connection" when I try to scan. There is still nothing appearing in the USB Tree tho.

I think I might try the scanner on my partners laptop tomorrow to see if it works ok with Windows 7 there and at least that way I'll know if its the scanner or the MacBook that's the problem.

It will prove the hardware works.

I had problems getting my scanner to work on my Mac. Mine is an all in one colour laser printer and scanner. The printer worked straight away, plug in and go, but the scanner was a bit harder to get going. My problem was that the Samsung did a universal Mac printer driver but it didn't work for the scanner.

I use Image Capture to operate the scanner, it comes as part of the Mac operating system and is used to transfer pictures from digital cameras, it can also import from scanners and it recognized my scanner.

Plug your scanner in and start Image Capture, it's in your Applications Folder, and see if your scanner is listed under Devices on the left.

That said, your scanner is Mac compatible and comes with dedicated Mac drivers and software so it should work.

    Another option occurs to me.

When you open System Preferences and click on Print and Scan is your scanner listed there?
