Off Peak v Economy 7 elec ??
We live in a flat which has 2 elec meters fitted, one is standard and the other is off peak which comes on at 11pm till 6 or 7 am for our storage heaters, we have our hot water on all day, there is no gas at the property.
When we moved here I tried to switch suppliers and discovered that the companies I tried would not accept us with 2 mpan numbers or if they were willing to it would not be cost effective as they would charge us a lot higher p kw for our off peak meter.
I recently spoke to our supplier and was surprised to discover that they would be happy to change our meter to econ 7, I have previously asked them to do this on a number of occasions which they said no so I do not know what has changed now??
They have said our electricity would work out cheaper, I am now wondering what to do as I would save £176 p year if I switched to another supplier based on the standard tariff, but would I after having the new econ 7 meter installed?
Hmmmm should I just take the suppliers word as I am a bit clueless how to compare the rate now to a econ 7 if we were to have on fitted.
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge regarding these meters? or have you changed and did it work out??
Any help appreciated
Thanks

It would appear you have Economy 7(E7) now.
However some properties with E7 are wired so only the Storage heaters and Immersion heater can use off-peak.
Most properties these days with an E7 tariff have all electricity on cheap rate for 7 hours i.e. for 7 hours the off-peak meter registers everything used in the house.
So it might not be as simple as getting an E7 meter, wiring changes might be required.0 -
It looks like we have E7 but it is def an off peak meter, I know they work on a similar basis but we do have 2 meters, with E7 is it just the one meter.0

With a modern E7 install you have one meter with a dual display. Post some pix of your meter arrangement. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

one trip to the dark scary cupboard later, off peak on left and standard on the right..0
