Please help

Could somebody help me, i have had a natwest account for 3 years and never been in the red till recently. My wife is in reciept of DLA and i have worked around her care, recently shee took a turn for the worse and i couldnt work, so i cancelled some non impotant direct debits and AP's. The bank returned a couple of direct debits and refused a cheque payment for which they charged me, taking me overdrawn by £48(only to the amount of bank charges). I have now been told i am to pay £6 per day until overdruaght is paid off.
I will not have any money to pay in to the bank till 7th Feb and this will therefore add an extra £78 to debt. Is there a way to avoid this other than borrowing money.
Thanks for any help
