a few years ago i was made redundant and accrued a large amount of charges on my credit card as i was unable to make payments, consequently it was sold to a credit collection agency that i pay a token amount to. would it be possible to reclaim these charges even though the card is no longer with the company?

You can make a complaint and attempt to claim them back but if successful, they can use the redress payment against any debt that was written off. After all, you didnt end up paying them as you didnt pay the full amount.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
