Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to get a CIFAS marker removed? Having looked at other issues on this forum, the Cifas markers seem to be being placed mainly by Tesco bank (which is also true in my case). I am having problems and feel like a criminal with this marker, being refused for credit even though I have an excellent credit score. I am worried that this will cause a problem with a new employer doing a credit check and really would like it removed. Is this possible?
Again, thanks in advance for your help.
Helen

Why did Tesco put a Cifas marker against your name?
In answer to your question No - Cifas marker remain on your credit file for a minimum of 1 year.0 -
Hi, I had bank accounts opened in my name in October (2011) at Tesco Bank. The accounts were not opened by me and after investigations, Tesco closed them and said that they would put the Cifas marker on my file so that any further attempts to open accounts by a third party in my name would be prevented - ie that I would simply need to provide further proof of my identity when applying for credit. I have now been refused a credit card and a mobile phone because of the Cifas marker - they really are not interested in listening to the reason but tell me to write to the credit dept!0

How do you know you were refused credit because of the Cifas marker? lenders would not normally disclose sensitive information like that.0 -
There are no other reasons that I would be refused credit, I have never been refused before, never missed a payment and have an excellent credit rating. To be honest, its the only thing that I can see it could be!0

How can you say there are no other reasons - You may have too much available credit, Just moved to a new address etc etc.0 -

You can contact the company asking them to remove an Impersonation CIFAS marker.0 -
A cifas marker for ID fraud should not stop you getting credit.
What it is there for is so that ANY application for credit is checked out fully (need to provide ID) and not just a automatic approval.
Not sure that getting one removed is a good idea if you have been hit before, you may find any bank very reluctant to remove one.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0
