HSBC 6% interest for 1 year for existing customers - help with how to get it

Hi, I am trying to 'switch' as an existing customer to get the 6% in credit interest on my HSBC current account. I read the t&c and it says you must switch at least 2 direct debits using the switching service. I have a couple of direct debits going from our joint account (different bank) that I don't mind going from my account (HSBC) instead so I printed out the switching forms from the HSBC website this morning, but they say that they will transfer all direct debits and close the account. Obviously I don't want them to close my joint account, but I would like to get this deal.
Please can someone tell me what I'm missing?
Thanks!

about 10 days later I received a letter from HSBC detailing all my DD/SO's they were going to switch. The letter gave me about 10 days to confirm which or the DD/SO's I wanted to switch to the new 6% HSBC. The letter informed me if they did not hear from me they would switch all of the DD/SO's over. Also I didn't close my Santander account but decided to keep it open just in case
Just deposited my £2500 and as long as I traffic £500 a month through the HSBC a month I will receive the 6% ( about £10 pm )
hope this helps
