Mum to be hamper

Hi guys,
Need some advice - family member is expecting a little one and want to do a hamper for her.
I don't have kids of my own so hoping for some ideas of what to put in it - not just things for the baby but for the parents to be. It is going to be their first child and has been a long wait for them.

Want to get some bits and bobs as I go to add together for them.

Many thanks ladies (and gents!)

bed socks (its cold getting up in the middle of the night)
badedas bath gelee (boots). The most brill stuff for after labour (My stitches didn't heal and was told to use this and it is excellent, OH loves it too).
    A voucher for a pedicure
some lansinoh cream if she is going to breast feed.
some cooked meals for the freezer.

sure there will be lots of suggestions.

  • I got given a couple of these last time i was pregnant. i have since made one for a friend, and i would suggest getting things you dont necessarily think of so...

calpol, teething gel, baby olbas oil, baby cereal or rice (as long as the sell by date is good!), cotton wool, wipes, nappy sacks, sudocream, baby bath stuff,

then slightly more costly items include....some baby socks, baby outfit, choc for mum, beer/wine, candle, mother and baby mag,

Thanks for all the ideas guys, didn't want to end up giving things that she doesn't need because it's an automatic gift thought... if that makes sense. keep them coming :)
  • I am pregnant with my second and there are certain items that i wouldnt bother buying with number two. so i will pass on my knowledge (well opinion really!!)

i wouldnt bother with hats or scratch mitts, and maybe socks! because they are all personal choice.

the other thing you could get are a teething toy, normally about £3 and some bibs too.

I got given 2 hampers, but both were focussed on the baby. I loved them both - they were brilliant.

    One had
A baby book (which I've filled in and used)
    Baby wipes
    Cotton wool
    Night light (still using it)
    Steraliser
    Rubber ducks (loads of use)
    soft toy
burp cloths (probably the only thing I didn't use - I preferred ordinary musilns)
    Baby bath, lotion etc

    The other had
knitted blanket (got loads of use)
    knitted cardi, mitts and hat
    muslins (loads of use)
    bath thermometer (loads of use)
    bath toys (loads of use)
    Soft toy
Weaning spoons (still being used at 12 months)
    Baby grows

I'm sure there's more. But whatever you do they are bound to love it.

My top tips for a hamper would be:
Links (teething toys, but they are a great first toy for babies): like these: http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/396381_343614052324085_269847863034038_1343017_869503385_n.jpg

    And sock ons: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sock-Ons-months-Colour-BABY/dp/B001KAFZEU

If there was to be stuff in it for me as a new mum, I would have liked biscuits and chocolate! I didn't have time for luxury baths etc so no point in that sort of stuff. I'd already bought myself lansinoh and the tube lasts forever so that would have been a waste. A better gift for a mum is for you to come round, make a cup of tea for the mum and have some adult conversation :) That's what I would of liked anyway :o

    I bought this yesterday http://direct.asda.com/Johnson-Johnson-Bedtime-Gift-Set/002674142,default,pd.html
Quality brand well known,to aid night-time sleep shows you care! also has a nursery cd so quid per item its only £4 at the moment instore its part of their baby promo i believe it ends 3rd feb.

Something nice for mum as well as baby is nice. Some nice soothing bath salts, cream, smelly candle a ready meal or iou voucher for cleaning would be top for me! I always let cleaning slide with a new baby need the sleep when i can get it!
