Tesco grocery deliveries from Kettering - argh!

Is anyone else outside of Kettering, having problems getting their deliveries made from this store?
2 deliveries in a row now have been cancelled - ok, so last week it was snowing - but Sainsburys and Ocado both managed to get out, whereas Tesco could only ring up an hour after the slot (which was a lunchtime one anyway) to say all the deliveries were cancelled that morning, but I could collect my shopping if I wanted! I'm still waiting on the refund for that one to come back.
Now, through necessity, I had to book them again - 12-2 today - just had a call to say 'as you are aware there has been a delay (first I'd heard) and we cannot get to you today as the van has a puncture'.
I'm sorry - you're telling me there's no spare vehicle? And that fleet seems to have more breakdowns than they sell hot dinners - in the past 2 years that I've been using them, that excuse has worn a little thin (along with keys breaking in locks, axles dropping off etc etc). You're looking at what is probably a delivery every 3 months on average being cancelled - but they seem to bundle them into groups of 2 or 3, so you're lulled into a false sense of security then bang and it feels even worse.
Got to let them redeliver (tomorrow apparently - waiting for another call from the head office - they have until 2) - they have all my money so no other option - lucky we weren't desperate for anything today.
I know people will say to use Sainsburys or Ocado, and I do when I can, but the budget just doesn't stretch that far for regular shopping.

I had 2 deliveries in 2 weeks cancelled by Tesco Weston super Mare. They phoned me to say that their van had been in an accident and asked if I would be able to collect it which I could (I only ordered online for the points!). Both times they phoned in plenty of time and asked when I would be instore to collect. When I arrived in store I only had to wait 2 minutes each time and wasn't surprised either time about the cancellation as traffic in the town had been horrific. I actually emailed CS to tell them how impressed I was with the staff attitude when I went to collect my shopping. The following delivery turned up in a car as the van had still not been repaired and they just wanted to get deliveries out. I was very impressed at their ingenuity.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0

I'm venting .... I'm venting .... if I don't I'm going to break something
:wall:
They've just called to reschedule - bearing in mind when the first call dropped in I did a quick check and there were plenty of daytime slots left tomorrow, by the time they bothered to call we're down to 5-7 tomorrow night at the earliest (unless of course I want a late night delivery tonight)!
Or of course, the ubiquitous 'you can always collect' to which I explained - disabled husband, 3 children under 6 just coming out of a sickness and diarrhea bug, and myself having spent the best part of the last three weeks myself in bed ill (and trust me I don't go to bed in the day unless I really have to) and why the hell do they they think I'm paying them a delivery charge in the first place.
And yes, they have my money, again - which means if they screw this one up I have the grand total of £8 to feed a family of 5 for the next 10 days.
No apology - just a refund of the delivery charge when I asked about compensation - Whoop dee doo - £3.99!
I don't care how good the points scheme is - they've just lost my business.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
Thanks Kaz - I wouldn't object to them delivering by mule if it meant I got the delivery today - but Kettering just don't seem to think outside the box like that. The money is in their till, so they couldn't care less.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0

crikey that is bad - if they stuff up like that you would expect to get given priority - refunded of delivery charge is not much for the aggro caused
I have the odd hiccup with Kettering but nothing as bad as that - my main gripe is excessive use of carrier bags, flattened bread and occasionally items with very short codes / almost out of dateBaby Milk Action is a non-profit organisation which aims to save lives and to end the avoidable suffering caused by inappropriate infant feeding.0 -
Thanks SaraSeahorse - yes, they are awful with the bags aren't they. I gave up with the bread/bakery at Christmas - 2 deliveries in a row where they were supposedly unable to substitute even one of the 6 perfectly standard white loaves on the order - so no bread each time.
Luckily a friend offered to go and pick a bit of shopping up for us yesterday after all, so we were able to cancel Tesco all together :j - wasn't really happy using them anyway - what would have happened if at 7 tonight we'd have got a phone call saying they couldn't come?
But - guess what - just after 8 this morning we get a phone call - to query the delivery time for our (cancelled) order - the first time they've ever contacted us prior to the delivery slot in question - trying not to be mean here, but I think we confused the dears :rotfl:
Feeling a bit less stressed now - would have spent the whole day worrying whether they'd turn up if we'd been left at their mercy. Just got to sort the pennies out now. :rolleyes:DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
I have to say I think you should be firing off a quick email to the MD at Tesco and creating a stink. Point out the extra costs you incurred.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0

I am a Dot Com Manager for Tesco, not at you store I may add, no doubt I will feel your wrath anyway!!
Firstly it is disappointing that your order was cancelled, I know how annoying it is but unfortunatly things do happen and we are unable to get deliveries out. You stated that we must have a spare van, no we dont im afraid. We dont own our vans, they are leased and there is one spare van to be shared between a region. In my region there are 8 stores and we have been able to use the spare van once in 4 months! I know that this is far from ideal but that is the way Tesco want it so we have to put up with it.0
