More or less what I think too, it has been poor timing for me though as I moved quite a bit of cash into the ftse just before Greece pulled that 'bundle and (probably) pay at the end of June' stunt.

Completely off topic, but do you use a tracker or a fund and if so, which one? (if you don't want to answer, I completely understand)

I'm in the process off switching everything into Vanguard ETF's at HL, the vanguard ETF's have lower fees, than Fidelity where I used to invest, mainly in UK tracker funds. I intend to diversify much more than previously with Vangaurd ETF's globally (rather than being UK biased). I have moved about half my portfolio over to HL at the moment.

The other thing that I like about the ETF's is that you can sell anytime when the market is open and know the price that you sell at, whereas previously there was a 12 noon price settlement with my Fidelity trackers.

If I were Russia or China I would probably be considering a fifth option at this point ...
Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.
  • Latest claim from zerohedge about a Greece and Greek debt.
Probably more grandstanding - but it adds another 'spanner into the works' to quote an old saying

Another possible outcome is that a newly founded development bank for the Brics countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – could ask Greece to join. Athens would pay a token amount to join the new bank and could then receive loans and funding for infrastructure projects.
Tsipras has said he will “seriously consider” Russia’s invitation to join the bank, which was clearly made with political rather than economic motives in mind.

You need to be a bit careful with ETFs as some are what is known as 'synthetic ETFs' which means that the underlying assets could be any old thing so if there is a crisis like the GFC then you might find that the value of the ETF and the value of what it is meant to track diverge.

    Caveat emptor and all that.

Thanks the one I am in at the moment is Vanguard's VUKE (ftse 100 tracker), confession time, I chose that one because of its volatility, I've been selling it when it gets high and buying it back when it dips. I'm no expert, and if trying to time the market in that way, goes wrong, then its a fair cop, but it is working out OK so far, and it has been quite interesting.

Ultimately I will be investing mostly in Vanguard's Vhyl with a long term passive approach https://www.vanguard.co.uk/documents/portal/press_releases/vanguard-etf-launch-key-facts.pdf because it is quite diverse (both geographically and sector wise).

    Vanguard are physical ETFs

Yes they are quite sound (if the bloody Greeks don't spoil the party that is).

The problem with trackers is that they track both UP & DOWN
