Laptop turns off after Windows update

Is this an error with my laptop? I have a new Lenovo laptop and Windows 7. Every time I have an update, my laptop turns off and restarts. I then have to go back to what ever I was doing. Can I stop laptop from turning off and the loss of all that I was working on?

in the control panel, under windows update, you can change the way update works*. select the option that warns you so you can chose what and when to do the updates at yr convenience.

PS You'll find it under settings on the left

This doesn't necessarily happen every time, just each time that a Windows update needs to have a restart to work properly. This seems to be less frequent in Windows 7 than in XP, but still far too often for my liking, too!
