Amended Final Bill
Hi,
I have just received from Atlantic Electric & Gas an amended final bill for £136.55 for an account closed in December 2009.
Although the bill does not state exactly why they are claiming this £136.55, on the back of the bill it says they refunded the credit in the account supposedly on two different dates. I am not sure this is the case (I certainly don't recall it, although i cannot rule it out entirely) and have no way of checking my bank statements back this far. I feel it is unjust that they should be claiming this money, out of the blue more than 2 years later. Where do I stand on this matter?
Thanks,
jpm777

The bank can check your bank statements going back further. They may not be available online to you but the bank does keep records longer. Find the date they supposedly credited your account and how much and ask the bank about transactions around those dates and matching amounts to check.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Thanks Happy MJ, I will check with my bank for older statements. Does it seem reasonable to you for them to ask for this money after all this time?0

Hardly "reasonable" but I presume you mean is it "right"?
I don't know. Scrutinise this very carefully, particularly the billing section...

A recent thread (either about Atlantic or Souther Electric?) reported a similar issue and IIRC the demand ended up being dropped.
If you are dissatisfied (not with the demand but the explanation), raise a formal complaint in writing or by email.0 -

It's not the bank statements that need to be checked its the Atlantic energy account statements.
You could always make a £10 Subject Access Request (SAR) of Atlantic requiring provision of all the data they hold including customer records, bills, correspondence etc. Will cost you £10, Atlantic an administrative fortune and there is every chance they will shoot themselves in the foot.0 -

Thanks Jalexa, I'll look at the document and go from there...!0
