Has OH's xbox live account been hacked?

Son has just told me that OH's gamertag is showing up in his friends list as having been online 2 hours ago and that there is a Fifa 12 game icon showing.

OH is at work right now and he couldn't have got online 2 hours ago if his life depended on it and he also doesn't even have Fifa 12.

Am I right in assuming he has been hacked?

If so, will it just be his account that is affected or might there be any issue with his xbox itself?

Sounds like it, if he had any points on his account, be good bet they are now gone.

A lot of accounts are getting hacked, where points are stolen and spent on fifa.

Just to add to this, its highly likely your OH's account has been compromised of his own doing rather than been "hacked" as such. He/you should probably look into securing your passwords a little more as its not as simple as someone gaining access to his account without anything to go off.

Not trying to be funny with you as loads of people have the same problem every day, just trying to prevent this happening again.

Hi rzlosty, can you explain a bit more about what you mean please?

How would he secure his password more? His password isn't the kind of personal password type thing (you know birthday, name etc), it's a complete mix of numbers and letters that don't relate to him personally iyswim. It's also not the same password he uses for other things. I'm not sure what else he could do?

I was doing some reading online last night and many seem to believe the hacker finds a gamertag then runs a 'script' which provides the password. Some people have been hacked more than once.

It's not something I know anything about but I was shocked at how many people out there were saying the same thing and at how the belief is that the problem is at Microsoft's end, although of course that is denied by Microsoft.

If anyone has any suggestions how to stop this happening again, or if there are particular things he should be doing at his end, we'd be glad of any advice.
