Can you make a CHAPs payment with HSBC internet banking?

Apologies if this is a stupid question! Trying to make a CHAPs payment using my HSBC internet banking but can't work out how to do it! Would anyone mind pointing me in the right direction?
Cheers

  • As far as I know you can't. I went to the HSBC branch today with the same question and they told me that it can be done in branch only. (and of course you must have your ID with you)

You can go online to transfer money between your accounts, set up BACS or CHAPS payments and view your account activity.
  • I wonder if that is up to date? Surely Faster payments have taken over BACS and CHAPS these days needs only be used for large amounts which most people would only need to use once or twice in a lifetime.

Normally CHAPS has to be done in Branch or can be done by telephone because other than doing the transaction, they have to make you aware of the £25 fee.

Faster payments is the new BACS. Payments go within two hours and banks normally can do up to around the 100k mark in faster payments before it goes to CHAPS. Although you might want to check what the rules are with your bank as every bank is different :)
