So your mum racks up some debt and you end up paying it off and just brush it under the carpet,

Strong words, but I would expect most people would. I can honestly say that I know if I was in that situation I would.

Can understand that. However you do need to ensure that your mother cannot take out further debt in your name otherwise your credit history will be trashed before you get any further. You need to get copies of your credit reports from each of the agencies - I'm sure somebody can provide the names.

Then you need to post up a statement of affairs on the debt free board so that you can see how quickly the remainder of the £600 can be repaid, because that will then be marked as such on your credit files.

You don't "need" a £4,600 loan you want it - and there is a difference. If you could explain why you want it people may be able to provide constructive comment. A lot of people come on here and post in a similar vein and when they explain the reason its to spend on something like cosmetic surgery or a new car, rather than saving up. Hence some of the responses.

Are you able to tell us why you need £4600? If it is not for something life dependant then don't do it.

    Two issues there.

Firstly, she's using them as a weapon. She is blackmailing you. You owe her nothing and need to get shot of her.

Secondly, do you really want them to be brought up by someone like that? Where do you suppose their lives will be headed? They need to be shot of her.

  • If you need £4600 have you thought about earning the money rather than borrowing, it may seem like the long way to do it but it's the correct way to do it. Once you get in debt (although unknown to you) it can be tough to pay off and if your finding the £600 hard to pay off then £4600 will be much much harder. This day and age I very much doubt on that wage you would be offered that sort of money on your wages even if you worked for the bank with a good credit history.

We don't know what you need the money for, the most expensive things in life tend to be a house and a car. If you need a home you can save a deposit by setting up a direct debit into a savings account monthly which will help prepare you when you get a mortgage/pay rent as you will be used to the money going out. If it is a car you need you will be able to find a good run around anywhere from £1000-£2000. You could make the extra money by getting a second job, selling unwanted items on ebay, cutting your outgoings, earning money from other sources (mystery shopping, surveys etc).

Realistically I don't think you will report the fraud which means you are liable for the loan and the bad credit which it incurrs. Borrowing money to pay money never pays off, always pay in full wherever you can as the stress of money owed isn't worth it where it can be avoided.

OMG I cannot believe how some people are so quick to criticise

Firstly the OP could be talking utter BS, and secondly there could well be a reason for the mother doing this, such as massively struggling with bills, debt etc herself. No, that doesn't make it ok, but saying her kids want shot of her is bang out of order IMHO.

Lastly there was nothing useful about any of the above comments so why bother?

This is the second of your posts I've seen this morning where you seem keen to flame others about their posting.
