Hello Hope someone can offer me some advice
My grandmother bought a TomTom Sat Nav system around 2 years ago, but she tried to use it 6 months ago and it wouldnt turn on at all, and would not recharge.
We tried contacting Currys, the retailer, adn the manufacturer and all are saying it is out of warranty so there is nothing they can do!!
She only used it 4 times, and cant afford another one, can anyone advise if there is anything I can do to recoup the loss-the SatNav itself is totally broken.
Many Thanks in advance

i know you prob tried this already but have you tried sticking a pin in the reset hole.. i have a funny feeling that this happened to my tomtom years ago when i first had it and it did fix the problem0

Hi Yes we have tried this but it doesnt even switch on-and the person in currys also treid this-it is kaput
Is there anyway my nana can get a replacement or refund? She did genuinely only use it 4 times0 -
Is it the Tom Tom with a separate charger or the pod? It may be worth connecting a multi meter to the charger/pod to see if there is power there. It could also be that the battery in the unit is damaged through lack of use. I managed to fit a new battery in my TT Go720 and it's fine. Got the battery via Amazon - it's a flat gel type battery and the instructions are on the web and youtube.0

Give it a good long charge. Leave it plugged in to your computer overnight if you don't have an ordinary socket charger. They have hopeless batteries that barely hold a charge when they're in regular use. Our one at work was left in a cupboard for a few weeks and we couldn't get it to turn on, even with it plugged in, until it had had an overnight charge.0

Thanks guys but it will not turn on after any length of charge or when plugged in-I could try the battery I suppose but it has been checked by Currys and they said it was broken0

Try contacting TomTom again, they were quite helpful when our satnav lost it's voice, around 2 months after the warranty expired. They offered to repair it if we sent it back to them (at our expense). Halfords didn't want to know, as far as they were concerned, it wasn't their problem, same with Curry's I guess (no surprises there)
Does she still have any proof of purchase?"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
Thanks Barbie, yes she still has receipt and all original packaging
I will try tomtom again but wondered if she was covered under sale of goods act or consumer rigths at all?
Many thanks0 -
The message seems to be: If you only expect to use your Satnav occasionally, say a few times a year, then buy a £50 one and consider it as disposable should it go wrong after the warranty expires.
I would be v annoyed if a £150 Tomtom stopped working after 18 months, but would have to take it on the chin if it were a £50 Binatone one.0
