I doubt it. I don't mean to be harsh but the op came across as one of those types who came on here looking for approval on a plan that was ridiculous, and then went off in a huff when they didn't get it!

EDIT Yup..... they've not been back online since the day of this thread (25/01/12)

Yeah just wanting to know how they got on as I am in a same sort of situation.
Have not yet go for it yet as worried about affordability. Cannot share/get a flat due to working nights.
It might just be me being over cautious.
Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.
  • I've only just read all this, and I too hope the OP didn't got for it in the end! I did pretty much exactly the same thing!!

I moved out with my then boyfriend at 19 years old. I was earning 12k a year and he was in a minimum wage maintenance job earning even less than me...most of which went on his extortionate car loan, and insurance on said car! So basically the plan was that I would pay the rent, bills (including council tax) and he would fund the car and pay for food. I was young and naive at the time, and had also experienced a difficult home life with warring parents much as the OP described.

After the initial 6 month contract was up we moved back to our parents, after racking up debts of around 3k trying to cover bills and unexpected costs. Luckily for me, the parents I had been so keen to get away from were the ones that loaned me the money, or my credit rating would also have been trashed!

8 years later, after having had somewhat more successful renting experiences and returning home to the parents once more to save I am finally in the process of buying my first property, older and most definitely wiser (and earning twice what I earned then)!

I ignored the advice of so many people, I thought I knew better. I was wrong. I paid for it.

Oh dear. If only OP was a troll, but I can see he's for real. Well it would be great if he came back in a couple of months to update so this thread could be used as a lesson for similarly naive people...

    Say you have £100.
You starting costs of living are £120 (and remember the OP does not take into account of a lot of the costs of living such as food etc).
Surely anyone can see you cannot afford to do that?

what is it you do for the charity ? do you work 40 hours a week ?

i question what it is you do that can pay so minimal tbh

i had a manual labour job when i first moved to aberdeen - it didnt pay great but even that cleared 1100 quid for a 40 hour week - with the option for over time,

we had no savings as we had just returned from 6 months cycling round new zealand and austrailia living in a tent

rental on the 1 bed furnished flat in a fairly rough area was 525 a month and council tax was 60 quid.

we used to cycle EVERYWHERE - inc too work and to the shops, we had nothing flash.

those were simplier times - id do that again in a shot!

to reitterate your plan is mental. id move into the town where you work and ditch the car its a huge financial drain and as for an iphone - id even go as far as to say dont you think thats a bit extravigant ? - i mean i have one now but i earn a damn site more than i did then , and when i first moved out i would never have even entertained thinking about getting an iphone .....

there are still furnishing costs and legal fees and monthly payments will still be high for renting.

my comment isnt meant to get on anyones nerves, but he already has 6.5 k saved, so is obviously good at saving. if he saved for a while longer then he would be in a better position ? there are also shared ownership schemes.
