Hi. I recently got broadband and phone with virgin media via cables or fiber optics.
am not happy with the service, and wish to cancel the contract and go with Be broadband.
Phoned up Be, they said to get broadband and phone through them i must get my lines connected or something. they said the cheapest place is the post office.
I am aware that the post office will activate lines for free till march. Could i take out a month with the post office, have them connect my lines, then, after a month cancel and switch the be and receive broadband AND phone from them instead?
Or will the post office disconnect me straight away, stopping me from going to another provider?
thanks for your time.

If your line still has dialling tone their would not normally be a connection charge any way.Have you tried it.
In any case whatever happens PO dont have "no long contract and no minimum tie-in" so you could leave them.
But if it did require a new connection this might apply."If you cancel Post Office HomePhone within six months of any New Line Provision, we may charge you a cancellation fee of £15 to cover our reasonable costs."http://www.postoffice.co.uk/sites/default/files/Line%20and%20feature%20rentals%20v11.pdf0 -

How would i test my lines? I have cable phone with virgin right now, how can i test my Bt lines?
If i cancel with the post office and pay the £15 fee, does that mean i have Bt lines on, and can switch my line rental to be from the post office whenever i would like?

You don't have the luxury of doing what you want - you are tied into a binding contract. If you have cable (and many would kill to be in the position you are with the potential of a 120Mb connection) you need to find out what the problem is and resolve it, as you'll be contracted for at least a year, possibly longer. If you leave, you'll be hit with the charges of the remaining period you've abandoned.
If you do not have a BT line, then you;ll need to pay for the installation of a PSTN phone line from Openreach, your cable phone line is of no use. Assuming you pay the £130 or whatever required, you'll be lucky if you get anything faster than 15Mb, but probably 8Mb - for whatever reason, it looks as though you're just trying to switch to an inferior service.0 -

I will explain.
I'm fresh in contract with virgin. i have 28days cool-off period to cancel and be refunded for any reason.
the reason i want to switch from 30mb to a possible 3mb is because as a gamer, the line quality is very important. With virgin it is un usable for games as the latency and packet loss is shocking. I understand that this is unavoidable in my area, as it is over subscribed. Peak times, you can just forget playing anything.
On ADSL i have always had a great line quality, so i am going back to ADSL with Be. as i understand they offer LLU where my last provider did not, so in theory i can still get a better service than what i had before i went with virgin.
So from the eyes of a down loader, yes i am trying to get an inferior service, but for me it's actually superior.
30Mb is nice, but i can live without! lol

Plug a phone in the socket for previous phone non cable phone if one exists.See if you have dialling tone.If not get one connected free from PO. No need to pay BT arm and a leg.
Once PO have arranged for new line to be fitted ,or reconnected old one your have a working BT compatible line, and you can transfer to a supplier of your choice as PO dont have a minimum tie in.
If in doubt ask them when you go to sign up.0 -
Are you sure that you can get ADSL2+ services with Be at your exchange??
