Just received warm home discount of £120.....Brilliant...went to collect at post office. Q. Why is it when lots of people like me have gas central heating, (wich was installed by government grant two months ago), we are not given the choice of gas or electricity?? Not going to keep warm round those new bulbs we have all fitted!:T

Because it is a benefit, not a right and it is up to the government where it goes. They decided electricity - it goes towards your electricity. Be grateful for what you getYou can use the money saved on your electricity bill to spend on your gas keeping you warm!

It is being run across all suppliers, so there needed to be a consistent approach (i.e. gas or electricity) otherwise someone with 2 suppliers would miss out (and others would get double).
Not every household has a gas supply, so electricity is the only real choice.0 -
Hi thowdnudger I have pre-payment meters for both my gas and electric. I was told by BG it was because every house hold has electricity but not every household has gas. They told me once I get the letter telling me I am getting it to call them and they would be happy to put it on to my gas. It doesn't really matter how they give me it because I wont be needing to put as much in your electric and can put extra onto my gas.0

Lynda - the process is automated, so they won't be able to stop it going to your electricity meter. Sorry that you seem to have been given the wrong advice, but as you say - the money you would have put towards electricity can go to your gas (or a bottle of wine etc)0

Hi Swanjon,
Thanks for that info. It doesn't really matter which way they do it for me. As i said what I don't put in electric meter I will put in my gas. I wouldn't thank you for a bottle of wine I would rather have a bar of chocolate.
Have you any idea how long it takes to process this payment I called about 3 weeks ago and was told I qualified I thought I would have heard something by now.
Again thanks for the info.0 -
The credit will be applied by the end of the first quarter - so in feb or march0

Hi Timmy
There is a lot of people on here saying they have been paid it. Maybe it depends on the supplier. xx0 -
May depend on the supplier - I don't think everybody will get it at the same time with BG. Will depend whether the customer automatically qualifies or is part of the broader group who may need to supply proof of benefits etc...0
-
I called and applied I was told I did qualify. I suppose this will have to be checked cant see them sending anything without proof that I do actually qualify. Maybe that's the hold up. xx0

Well i have no idea whats going on with my supplier utility warehouse.
I would be eligible i would have thought thru the core group, but have not had any letters. Certainly i would qualify under the broader group.
BUT i asled utility warehouse and they said that they are not recognising the broader group only those who are in the core group and identified to them by HMRC!
As far as i can see this is wrong, as i have been told that each supplier is supposed to have set criteria for recognising the broader group and that they are supposed to supply a copy of their criteria to Ofgem.
I have asked utility warehouse to supply me with a copy of their policy/criteria and let me know if they have supplied Ofgem with the same, but they are now not even responding to my emails
