Failed MOT, am I being overcharged on these items?
                    Help!
Put my micra in for its MOT today, expecting to fail on something to do with the breaks and a ripped wiper blade that I didnt have time to change.
However, the damage is that the front headlamps need to be changed as they are cloudy and the front bearing.
Its 319 quid for the both headlamps and 69 for the bearing
Is this reasonable, has anyone had their headlamps on a micra changed before as Ive seen many that are cloudy and my lights have never seemed problematic before?
I have until tuesday to find someone else to do it if its cheaper, this was a Nissan dealer who I put it in with

You are bound to find a back street garage to do it cheaper, esp if you get parts from a scrappy.0

the last back street garage i used to do the mot ( a couple of years ago) put two different sized tyres on my car and i didnt realise until i was reading this forum about someone elses car
we dont have other places to go that are like that and reliable.
i was wondering how it works with the mot, mine runs out tuesday, if i get it done somewhere else (bearing in mind i will have to order these things in) where do i then get the mot done?0 -
            Hi
Dont know if this will work on your headlights. Just to say it sorted mine out and saved me pounds. Try T-Cutting them worked a treat on mine. Good Luck0 -
You can drive your car to a MOT station even though you have no MOT. You need to have an appointment at the MOT station to which you are taking the car.
You can take your car to any MOT station.
(By back street garage, I mean not using a main dealer!!)0 -
            Seems dear to me.
if you can access the inside of the headlights you might be able to polish the haze out.
Headlights- £32.90 each new ebay
Wheel bearing kit- £13 ebay
There must be a mechanic in a van somewhere around you.As surely as night follows day capitalism will come crumbling down. On a mission to secure a just and ethical society.0 -
well the only other garage that looks reasonable i used for an mot the other year, nothing major needed doing however when i phoned them one time to compare prices to the nissa dealer for breaks and pads, they were more or less the same price
but i will see if they will fit things that are not offical, as nissan wont touch stuff like that with a barge pole
i dont know whether to order these things or not and risk them not coming in time for tuesday, im pretty clueless when it comes to the right thing, i dont even know the right terminology0 -
Get somebody to try T cut on the headlights as suggested - usually works and if not then buy them from ebay and have a local Garage fit if you don't have anyone who can do it for you. Should be about half an hours work at most - £200 saved.0

he bought the price for the headlamps and labour down to 212 when i told him i found lamps 'e approved' on headlampsdirect for 69.50 each
still got to pay full price for the bearing though due to the labour, the bearing is only 20 pound anyway he said0 -

oh, i forgot about this option, they rang back you see, putting me under pressure when i told him about the cheaper price
i hate dealing with all this0 -

If my memory serves me right your old MOT is Null and void now you have put it in for new one and its failed..so you will be driving about illegally if you are still using the car now its had an MOT fail..the last back street garage i used to do the mot ( a couple of years ago) put two different sized tyres on my car and i didnt realise until i was reading this forum about someone elses car
