It depends. Provided the dd wasn't set up to pay off an outstanding bill, and she has never missed a payment, and the dd hasn't been cancelled, they are not allowed to object. However if she has missed payments or cancelled the dd then she wouldn't be allowed to change.
If she did switch the dd would be cancelled and they would demand immediate payment, possibly attempting to take it out the dd before they cancelled it.
I don't understand how this balance accrued - I would be surprised that in 7 1/2 years BG's computer never noticed this balance accruing, and how didn't your sister didn't notice on her bills?0 -
im not sure how it accrued and am not sure regarding missed d/d etc will let you know later
can they stop her moving supplier even with an outstanding amount
they could take a run and jump for their money then along with other people she owes
at the moment she needs to feed the family keep a roof over their heads and try to keep them warm
bg dont seem prepared in anyway to help her to do that

You will be very very lucky if bgas let her go. she may just slip though but dont count on it. Elec suppliers have every right to object to a transfer if there is debt outstanding and if she dont pay the bill they will cut her off. Ask them to fit a P/P meter and as she is not working they should limit the repayment of debt to about £5 a weekFiliss0

If she is on benefit then if she does change to a pp meter she should ask for the 'essentials' tariff.0
