Is it easy to do?. As I am about to move in week and the new house I am moving in to has front and back double glazed doors.
Now I want to change the locks for obvious reasons. Is it easy to do and could me or hubby do it without incurring lots of costs.
Do we just remove the handle from the inside and replace with a new one. And so it has a new set of keys. Or can you just change the lock barrel
And where do I buy new handles/key barrels from?
Thanks in advance to any one with help or advice on this matter.

This is the best option. Some cylinders (barrels) are available in B&Q and that like. However the choice is very small. Extract you old one and take with you to avoid mistake. The best place in the Internet I know is LocksOnline . Excellent site with huge assortment and good photos and descriptions.
P.S. If you want to save on handles this THREAD could be useful.0 -
Not as easy as you may think to be honest as you have to get the right cylinder for the door and for that you will need to remove the cylinder.
To remove the cylinder look down the side of the door and approx on the same line as the cylinder you should see a screw, remove this screw, it's about 2 inches long, then put your key in the door and gently try to pull the cylinder out, you may need to twist the key slightly to various positions for it to be removed. Once you've removed it measure the length in millimeters of the bit from the locking mechanism (rotating bit) to the front and back of the look and buy the same size, some popular sizes are 35/45, 45/45, 45/55 etc

The one pictured here is a half profile cylinder and will only let you lock from one side. No good for a front or back door.
Have a look here. http://www.locksonline.co.uk/acatalog/Euro_Double_Cylinders.html
Scroll down to the Era Euro Profile Cylinders at the bottom.
These are the type you may need. There are plenty of other makes too.
Measure the distance from the face of the cylinder to the centre cam of the lock then measure the other side. Choose an appropriate size cylinder to suit you needs. If only everything in life was as reliable...AS ME !!

Type, as they will need to take out the lock to measure correctly0
