I would have thought if that was the case then there would be lots of users in the same boat - there doesn't seem to be any other reports of this happening.
There are many complaints about PC Tools on their Facebook page, some similar to my problem, others complaining they are being charged for a product they've never downloaded, all complaining there is a distinct lack of response from PC Tools.0 -

We see two main possible here
Either:
1 - you were infected but you didnt know it as nothing was 'in your face' to tell you it was infected. Then when you downloaded the update, PCTools found you were infected, attempted to remove the nasty infection but killed your computer in doing so. Whilst PCTools killed your computer this way, it was only trying to do its job which is remove the infection.
or
2 - You wernt infected. You downloaded the update which was 'broken' (For want of a better word), which wrongly thought your operating system was part infected and broke your computer by attempting to remove it. If this is the case then they should reimburse you somehow
You need to understand that there are literally millions of viruses worldwide and its impossible for ANY anti virus program to know about them all. So its quite possible that you were infected, but you just didnt know it.
Same thing happened to me years ago when I (Stupidly) used AVG as my anti virus. All of a sudden it flagged up I was infected with trojans (Which I was), but I had no idea up until AVG told me I had trojans (Which had been on for about 3 months).
To put all this another way, if you didnt use an virus protection, how would you know if your computer was infected? Dont assume just because your anti virus tells you your systems clean, that theres nothing malicious there (This ones highly possible because PCTools is a very poor security program which is generally MONTHS behind the best):idea:0
