Hello, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a shop in the Belfast Area (I'm in South Belfast) where I could buy a decent washing machine at a fair price?
I would be looking for quick delivery as after waiting 3 weeks on Tesco Direct delivering the machine arrived damaged and I really need to get one soon.
Thanks for your time.

P.S. sorry I haven't read through the threads for a similar one but I've a throbbing headache :embarasse

Hmmm.....depends on what you call a fair price for a good machine. I've always found that Laser sell the Which? best buys for white goods and are normally quite competitive.....I've also managed to get a few quid off for paying in cash on occasion. I'm of the opinion for things like this that you're better spending an extra bit on a quality machine than skimping and paying more in the long run (I bought a Bosch one 3 years ago for £300 and have never had a problem with it.....my parents have had one for 12 years and it's never broken down and still working perfectly!). Curry's normally have one or two machines on special offer (~£200) as well if you'd prefer to nab a bargain and Makro (if you know someone with a card) occasionally have ones on offer.Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

I also bought Bosch after a 'WHICH' magazine recommended; it was most reliable in tests (German engineering)
Turned out a true claim, an excellent reliable machine 5 years later
'Siemens' brand is the same machine
PS. avoid Hoover or other cheap machines which don't last and are a waste of money0 -
Thanks Robothell, I was thinking of around the £300 mark as I want a big drum and high spin as well as being A rated. I have a Macro card but am not sure how much I trust their electrical items as I've had problems with them in the past :undecided I would prefer to support a small business if they were offering a competitive deal but will go with the larger ones if needs be.The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0

Thanks ballyblack, I'm signed up with the which website atm and had seen that they recommend to stay away from Hoover. Will have to check out if there's a Bosch with the specs I want in my price range. The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0

S&R (Sam's yer Man) Newtownards branch have a BOSCH WA24162 Classic XX
1200 spin in white for discounted price of £319 (probably £300 cash)
Let us know whereabouts you purchase eventually!0 -
I think that all white goods are disposable nowadays with a lifetime of ~5 years. I personally would buy the cheapest and Macro is a good pace to start.ANGER is one letter away from DANGER0

Try phoning Donaghy Bros in Kilrea. They may be a bit out of the way but (in my experience, will match or better any competitors quotes. I've even got them to match internet prices in the past. Also deliver to Belfast.0

Thats fair enough but a washing machine life depends on what use it gets
A large family might use a machine several times a day and only a quality machine will last 5 years + in those circumstances0 -
White goods are not all built nowadays with a lifetime of 5 years. If you purchase a cheap POS then 5 years maybe quite good but some of the better brands are expected to last much longer. Miele comes to mind, which IIRC correctly comes with a 20 year guarantee.
Anyhoo, we are doing up the kitchen just now and rather than using the supplying kitchen company for the white goods i have been researching where is best to buy. Laser/Lazer didn't seem cheap to me. All the web delivery companies were way better if you could handle the wait but the best locally would be a Euronics dealer. I am using Nicholl Bros in Ballymena to supply a range at about £200 less than lazer/currys and £400 less than the kitchen suppliers could get too.
Euronics dealers close to you would be Noel Grimley Electrics on Donegall Road or Cs Suppliers on Royal avenue. No experience of either but as they are part of the Euronics chain i'd expect them to be open to a bit of haggling and generally do free delivery too.0 -
Thanks everyone, the problem with cheap machines are that they generally don't have a high spin (longer in the drier), don't have large drums (more washes) and aren't normally a good energy rating, I'm after an A rated high spin machine which will, in the long run, save on electricity and be environmentally friendly.
Thanks Caveman, I'm afraid Miele would be out of my price range atm, I was hoping to call with Noel Grimley today to see what they have.
It's frustrating because the one delivered was the ideal machine if it hadn't been damaged. The fact that it was damaged inside the machine and only realized because of the big chunks of broken plastic in the bottom of the packaging has made me loose confidence in Tesco direct delivering a reliable machine.... that and the three weeks they made me wait for delivery. The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0
