Just been outside to jumpstart the old car, my jumpleads smoked & melted I'm a bit trauamatised, question for the men of the group have I damaged either car ?

I did that to dads Range Rover and it fried the alternator. Because the RR dad had was pretty much built to order for it's previous owner who worked in the oil industry in Oman to make way for the Air conditioning the alternator was fitted to the opposite side of the engine. Trying to find one of these alternators was not an easy task and cost a fortune when we did find one.:eek:

If it was just the jump leads smouldering then you might have got lucky but if not, the battery and alternator could be fried. Get another set of leads and connect them correctly and see what happens. If it starts and the battery light comes on you've fried the alternator. If it's not a sealed battery pull out the plugs and make sure the liquid is still there. If not boil the kettle, let it cool and top up the cells.

My biggest womble success yet - £2.05!:j:j:j

The only item on there that was cheaper was

    1 x TESCO FINEST FLEURIE 75CL £ 9.99 £ 7.48

They were ripped off because it's now £8.79 on dot com!!

And sadly the sleeping bag liners don't price check...meanies.:rotfl:
:) Learn from the past, enjoy and appreciate the present and work to make your future the best it can possibly be :)

All this talk of holidays I'm getting itchy feet. Just checked the price of flights to Antananarivo and it cheaper than I thought :j:j Might be making a booking soon :D
Something unexpected happened which made me smile and still continues to make me smile.

Sorry I'll go and sit on the naughty step!

I wasn't trying to upset anyone, I think this is the same in every business nowadays what with the growth of the Internet. Until recently I worked for an Opticians and not a day would go by without a customer asking for a contact lens prescription so they could buy their lenses online.

No need for the naughty step and I'm sorry if I was a little heavy handed.

I just worry sometimes that in our pursuit of a bargain we are paying a high price - small businesses without massive buying power can't survive.

As you say, the Optician is a case in point. My optician is so lovely and has been so helpful to me over the years so although I know that I could buy my lenses cheaper elsewhere I don't - it just wouldn't be right and I would struggle to look her in the eye next time I need a check up and that would really make it hard :rotfl::rotfl:

Personally I think it is the difference between using a travel agent/optician/other shop and using them if you know what I mean. Taking what you can from them but not ever paying for their service just doesn't sit well with me.

Opticians can't survive on the cost of eye tests alone so when they are all gone and we only have optician superstores left what will happen? The prices will go through the roof.

Anyway, rant over and I'm sorry Fudge_Cake - I know you meant no harm. :)
If you're not scared, you're not paying attention
