I have a client looking for a win7/64 pro laptop for £250 or less with a cpu that supports hardware-assisted virtualization (for XP Mode - he has software that he uses that will not have win 7 compatibility).
I believe that all i3's have it, some of the earlier CPU's have it and some don't (got caught out on this a couple of years back when the same Intel cpu sub-versions had it and others didn't).
I am having a look, most of the dell outlet items are about £400. Anyone else got any good ideas - always nervous about ebay for warranty reasons?
Or if you think we're smoking dope, what do think is a reasonable cheap price for the spec that might be achieved?

I thought (but that is always a danger) that MS did away with the hardware requirements for Virtual MC In fact I am sure my old ASUS didn't have it (but I am out at the m o can't verify) an it ran XP mode very happily.

If it were for you, I would suggest to just buy one of the standard DELL Outlet machines. But as it's business....
But there is an easy solution.0 -

Thank you, but could perhaps expand on yr last sentence, not sure what you mean? Are you saying the best route is buy a 7/64 Home and upgrade to Pro?0 -
Interesting! Microsoft webside still states the VT requirement however the Intel i series CPUs all have VT now. Thanks, I hadn't seen this................

Yeah I have Virtual XP mode on my Win7 64bit Enterprise edition PC and the CPU hasn't got VT support.... MS relaxed/changed XP mode / Virtual PC requirements for Win7 sometime back
