  • If I remember rightly, Oxygen was suggested in around 2008, but nothing more came of it, when he said he smoked and others in the house did... wasn't any kind of follow up to it. but he is much worse than he was then. Hoenstly, Im not sure if it would work, Im not a Doctor, but the obstructions are on a large scale. He has very limited nasal airway in one nostril, and none in the other, due to the tumours, his throat is the same, so i don't really know. that was when we were living in Portsmouth and their medical experts in the field weren't all that 'expert' hence why he is under the Royal Brompton and Chelesea And Westminster in London, he lost alot of faith in the doctors as some, without being horrible saw him as an 'experiment' and scared him to be fair, ''we may be able do this this and this in the future'' by cutting your face open, etc etc, you'll be in out in to intensive care afterwards for your body to repair etc etc.... it wasn't right and he was scared, I bloody would be too! He will never ever admit that though. He has two teeth left, as the pressure from the tumours in his cheeks basically pushed them inwards til they crumbled away. The pain he suffers with that alone is debilitating for him, but again, no standard local dentist at all will even touch his mouth, once they have seen, as they arent trained in the field, and one wrong nick, is life threatening. So it's waiting on hospital appoinments in London, he was admitted a year ago for three nights and kept on morphine for the pain (he gets reaccouring abscese etc) when three weeks of intense pain he finally gave in and agreed to being admitted. but as they said, it was never going to be something they can 'fix' there and then, it was just for his pain management. Teeth etc are hopefully something in the future, but it's not a priority, his breathing is. The last appointment he had last month didn't even suggest Oxygen, but honestly, I think he was just concerned about getting everything moving quickly. He has an MRI in a few days and the consultant in 2 weeks, so for an MRI to be pushed through that quickly is good, as I do know some people have to wait months, so we are thankful for that :)

God it seems like Im going off track with my replies.... really sorry..... explaining things has never been a strong point! Lol!

With oxygen, you need around a quarter of the 'air' to get past the obstruction.
If giving up smoking is a problem - e-cigs would allow nicotine, while not being a hazard in the same way.
  • Thank you for that info! As nothing has been said since, and never mentioned by his proper consultants,I'm assuming it's not something they were looking at doing.... Hopefully once in for the operation, he will give up anyway, as they will need to put him in to a coma to recover.... I would imagine that gets past the addiction stage :) Be good if it did too!

If someone is smoking in the home then oxygen is a definite no, far too dangerous.
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

  • Hi Torry Quine, yes, I know the posed risks with that.... would have imagined if it was something that they wanted to do they would have asked about smoking away from the home... Obviously none of us would have ever questioned that, his health and well being is far more important than frezzing outside at night having a cigarette!
