can someone help me explain registry office fees and why they differ so much around the UK. We have to pay £33.50 each to submit a notification of ceremony.
then its going to cost us £200 for ceremony room (at registry office).
If they were to come to hotel where we are holding the reception is £495!!!
what is everyone else paying?

Ours costs are £350.00 for registrar and £33.50 to give notice. This is for our wedding venue (£100 for room) registry office room cost £125.00 to hire for half an hour, but we didn't go for that.
This is taken from directgov:
Give notice before registering a marriage or civil partnership £33.50
Register a marriage or civil partnership at a register office £40.00
Register a marriage or civil partnership on approved premises - The cost for attendance by the superintendent registrar and registrar is set by the local authority.
A further charge is likely to be made by the owners of the building for the use of the premises.
Cost of marriage or civil partnership certificate on the day £3.50Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
For us it was £33.50 each to give notice
For the ceremony, they circled the normal Monday-Thursday cost of £358.50 but it is a bank holiday so they will probably charge us £503.50.0 -
33.50 each for notice and then 410 for the ceremony on a saturday not at the registry officeThe only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 50

£33.50 each to give notice, then £43.50 for the ceremony. We're having a quickie legal ceremony in the statutory room at the registry office which can only fit 4 guests, then a Humanist ceremony the next day.

£33.50 each to give notice then £378.50 (includes £170 room hire) for ceremony at the council owned museum. If we were to get maried where we are having our reception it would have been nearly £500 fees plus £1000 for the venue.
**Edited to add** the ceremony is on a Saturday.0 -
£33.50 each for notice, around £420 for registrars to come to ceremony venue (council owned) on a Saturday.:T0

£33.50 each to give notice then £93.50 for the ceremony which includes the certificates. My daughter and her OH are having a simple ceremony with a Humanist ceremony afterwards, same as White_Sapphire. It would be cheaper to have it during the week, but they want it on the Saturday so the marriage certificate will have the correct date on it, so £40 extra. The Humanist ceremony is £350.0

£375 for the registrar to come and do their thing for 15mins (grr) and £33.50 each to give notice0

Our costs...
Marriage notice fee - £30 each
Ceremony - £55
Marriage certificate - £10
Marriage outwith registry office - £112
Total - £237
We're getting married in a council owned building which is £25 per hour so total would be £262. However this is based on 2011/2012 prices and the registry fees and venue prices go up in April!! Don't know what they'll be! :mad:SPC 9 # 5360 -
Lincolnshire registry office - enhanced ceremony (chosen because then you can pre-book the date in advance of a year) on a Tuesday in July (term time). It will cost us £33.50 each for the notices, £260 for the ceremony, and £3.50 for a marriage certificate. = £330.50 in total.
The council's website states:
Enhanced Ceremonies
These are available at our Registration Offices or Licensed Venues on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday and Bank Holidays.
As well as the words required by law, you can personalise your ceremony with a choice of extra vows, or you can even write your own.
You can include readings by members of your party and/or the Registration Officer and have your own choice of music at suitable points in the ceremony. You also have a longer exclusive time slot at the Registration Office to allow for those unhurried photographs afterwards.0
