I thought Vista was a wholly reworked version of windows? I would think it's better to go with vista now it's out as at some point games manufacturers will stop producing games/apps for XP.

For Home users, its a no brainer. Get Vista if you're buying a new PC.

The last thing you want to do is buy an XP PC and then perform an upgrade to Vista afterwards. You also don't want to buy a new PC with XP and then in a few months regret it when most people you know with new PCs will have Vista running on them.

Finally, when getting a new PC, you'll know that all components in your machine are Vista ready. You might want to consider upgrading your graphics card at a later date if you want a Direct X 10 one, but your PC is fundamentally Vista ready and supported that way.

The bottom line: Windows Vista is essentially warmed-over Windows XP. If you're currently happy with Windows XP SP2, we see no compelling reason to upgrade. On the other hand, if you need a new computer right now, Windows Vista is stable enough for everyday use.

Windows Vista is Microsoft's first new operating system in more than five years and the successor to Windows XP

Was my point - it isnt simply a rehashed version of XP.

However, I do agree, there are no new features that are worth upgrading for. It still have pretty much the same interface and just a few new icons, etc. It's not worth upgrading just yet if you have XP already, but it must be recommended for new PC purchases simply because XP will be phased out.

its impossible to build your own now for less than the aldi type machines.
they really are good value for the money. esp with vista and a 3 yr warranty.

ive just upgraded my own system. motherboard and cpu alone cost me just nearly 100 quid.
