Thanks for the offer. It's really appreciated.

Unfortunately, I can't really take you up on it. Neither of us could lift it* and I doubt it would fit in the back of her 200SX.

    * I can only just lift her current manual chair with both wheels removed.

So now we're looking at both of us taking a day off work as her car does not have sufficient range in it's tank to do the round trip to the wheelchair dealership in one go, and without the chair she can't pay for fuel, and hoping that they are able to repair the chair same day.

Not being funny, but how come you are going to a dealership that far away that you cannot do the total journey on one fill up?

If my maths are correct, most small/family cars hold on average 11 galls and would do at least 40mpg which would give a minimum round trip of 440 miles. This is the equivalent of Manchester to London and back!

Aren't there any dealers closer to where you live?

Its like saying I bought a car in Glasgow when I lived there, but moved to Exeter shortly afterwards. I certainly would not go back to Glasgow if the car needed repair work!

I think the point is that the car doesn't currently have enough fuel in it to do the round trip, and without her wheelchair the g/f can't fill up. At least not reliably.

BTW for the issue of staff not coming out if you hoot and wave blue badge, have you tried phoning garage in advance and saying you need to fill up and will require assistance? Obv not possible for 'random' garages but if you know where you're going could be worthwhile.
Signature removed for peace of mind

I chipped the Ty frame on one chair and it was only a few weeks old so I was upset but apart from that no damage, I did wonder if she had frog hoppers or something on the front to cause so much damage?

Update time. The chair has been repaired. I'm rather annoyed that the powder coat on the frame has chipped off where the front castors hit the frame. It's not visible and apparently there isn't much you can do about it apart from strip it all off and re-do it. Understandably she'd rather leave it than be without her chair for a few weeks minimum.

Her car has a 55 litre LPG tank giving a range of 230 miles. The round trip today was 230.5 miles with no detours made. The nearest LPG station is 5.7 miles in the opposite direction. The problem isn't that the tank was half empty, I'd already offered to go with her to a garage last night. The risk is just too great when there's no guarantee of having a chair for the return journey.

Nope, EPC in Farnborough is the nearest Küschall dealership, which is annoying as the distribution centre is in bloody Bridgend about half an hour's drive from us. Of course they don't let end users in.

It's a Küschall Champion fitted with Alber e-motion M15 wheels and detachable Alber anti tippers. It does not have frog hoppers.

Unfortunately because of the combination of her specific disabilities, my own back problems that limit my lifting ability, and her owning a car that she loves (Nissan 200SX S13) but is not ideally suited to wheelchair use, it's really the only chair that was suitable.

The Champion can sit on the passenger seat and will just about fit between her lap and the roof so she can pass it across her lap and drop it on the road alongside her car, jacked up on the anti-tippers. Then she can fetch the e-Motion wheels from the rear seat shelf, attach them, push the anti tippers into their normal position, spin the chair around and do a transfer. It's actually pretty awesome that she gets to keep her car and still travel independently.

When we travel together, the chair goes in the boot or back seat of my car and then I get to do the lifting. When If we have spare cash she's considering getting a Quickie Helium as a spare chair and using that when we travel together as even the Champion is at the limits of my lifting ability. Problem with the Helium is while it would go in the passenger seat of her car it would not fit across her lap so she'd have to "walk" around on crutches.

Prior to this we were hiring an Invacare Action 3+ which had to go in the boot with the wheels detached. She'd then have to get to the boot on crutches and faff about trying to assemble it while standing on one leg. Painful, slow, annoying and apparently also a fascinating spectator sport for all the family to watch, or try to "help".

Right I see Bridgend to Farnborough - 230 miles. Yep that's about right - done the journey many times past your place to my old home in Swansea.

But 55 litres of LPG only gets her 230 miles in a Nissan 200 SX, presumably the 2.0 model. That means she is getting approx 19 miles to the gallon. Phew what does she do with it? I would seriously advise her to see a garage about that level of consumption. At worst on LPG she should be achieving around 30mpg giving a range of 360 miles!!!

Anyhow glad she has got it all sorted now.

We're actually nearer Chepstow than Bridgend. Google says 224 miles, my trip counter says just over 230.

And no her car is the older 1.8 model, with an automatic gearbox. It's also somewhat non-standard, bigger turbo, FMIC, remapped ECU, wider wheels, uprated brakes, better suspension etc. If she were to sit at a constant 60mph for the entire journey, not that this is possible because the second half the trip is cross country, then the car can get 35mpg on LPG, but frankly cruising down the motorway at 60 for a long journey would take up a lot of time and use too many spoons.
