What is the most popular email account?

I was just wondering what is the most popular email account out there?

I know of these few to start off, if you can think off any more please let me know and I'll add them.

What do you think off your email account.

I'll start off: I use gmail and I'm not very impressed mainly because of the link to social networking. Perhaps I may be in the minority but I've never joined facebook or:huh: twitter
I am at a Crossroads in my life and deciding which path to take:coffee:

"One man's meat" comes to mind, everyone on here will tell you their's is the best. It is a personal thing in terms of what you're used to, the way you work, and what you want from it.

First there are the webmail systems such as Gmail which you're used to, Hotmail (& Live as it is now called), Yahoo, AOL, and ISP's proprietary webmail systems.

Alternatively you have what are called client systems (excluding exchange server applications). These differ to webmail in so much as the emails are downloaded to your system where you then control within your own folders on your PC, ie usually emails are not retained on the ISP's mail servers. These might include:

    Thunderbird
    Outlook Express
    Windows Mail
    Windows Live Mail (renamed hotmail)
    Outlook
    Eudore
    Apple Mail
    Lotus Notes
    Incredimail
    and many others

What link to social networking? ive been using gmail for years, and unless I am mistaken they do not force you to use Twitter or facebook, or even Google+.

I like GMX because it has all the features I need - POP3, IMAP and SMTP servers, a mail collector (for other POP3/IMAP accounts), customisable spam filtering, and you can create multiple aliases for a single account.

It's also been really reliable -- I only started to use it after my old email provider's servers kept going down and my Inbox would become corrupted intermittently.

Oh yeah - I have my own domains too, but host the mail on GMX's servers rather than with the domain registrar/host.

BT is the largest ISP in the UK - they tell me that 80% of users use webmail - one would expect younger customers using gmail/hotmail, and the rest using BT's yahoo service; actually I am not sure how they qualified this stat, Whatever, I found that those stats were/are unlikely - in my expierience sorting out out folks systems, that, apart from the younger generation, the majority default to MS client systems.

The experts on this site will be more selective, but the systems they use may not have a popular audience in terms of volume of business in the UK - however they may well be better in terms of functionality - small is beautiful comes to mind.

I just use Outlook 2007 and Ajax webmail (@mail) when travelling - do the job, reliable, without being too intrusive - I also use Mailwasher to weed out unwanted email.

I voted for Yahoo as I have been using it before gmail was around (well, even before google hit the web). Can't be bothered to change it now as it suits my needs.

  • GMail for me, as it was the only email service that my old win98 pc could cope with at the time as the rest were just full of ads and it took ages for my pc to open:(

Stuck with GMail now for roughly 10 years, have others like windows live and iCloud (ME) email, but GMail is my preferred:)
