Hi All,
I am looking to purchase a cheap first laptop for my father, not too bothered about specification as long as it allows a decent browsing and word processing experience.
Requirements:
- £300-400 bracket
- 17" screen
- Well Made
- Decent battery life
I cant seem to find anything suitable, does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks

You can pick up Asus laptop from ebuyer for just under £400.
I would go for a Dell laptop from the Dell site - cheapest 17inch one is £459 but you can get a discount using quidco/topcashback.0 -

Hi thanks for the suggestions.
Does anyone know what the quality of Dell Outlet laptops are like? Are they all refurbished, without box, etc?0 -
You are unlikely to get a "decent battery life" with any 17" laptop! Here's a link for the Dell Outlet FAQs. I would be extremely surprised if they didn't come in a box, but it may be slightly scuffed, since pre-owned.0

As John says above - the battery is one of the items that manufacturers skimp on for cheap laptops, and having to power a 17" screen will make this worse. No problem if it's plugged in most of the time though. Check Argos for some run-out models. I'd rather have a Toshiba, Samsung or Lenovo than a Dell at this price point.0
