Connect PC to LCD TV

As the title says I'd like to connect my PC to our LCD TV.

As the TV has a VGA port I thought it would be as simple as plugging it in (TV says no signal).

It's a 32" Luxor TV and an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6300@1.86GHz 1.87GHz.

Any ideas?

Have also tried plugging my Dell laptop into the TV using the VGA cable and while the picture works, do I also need to connect other cables to get sound?!?

  • Quickly to help. You will need a mini-jack to mini-jack (basically the jack end of your headphones, but on both ends) and this will plug into headphone socket on PC and a green socket near the VGA input on the TV.

No idea with what problem its having with displaying images on the other PC.

    But try this:
If you are running windows 7:
    1. plug in VGA to both PC and TV
    2. right click on the screen that is working
    3. click on screen resolution
    4. If there is two monitors displayed in the window, the PC can output to the TV.
    5. try changing the resolution of the 2nd monitor (the TV), which is done by clicking on the monitor labelled '2' and changing the resolution to something else (if its not already on recommended then change it to that).

    Hopefully this helps

Thanks for replies. Have got a DVI adaptor so now able to plug PC into both monitor and TV. And have audio leads so able to plug these into the PC. But I only seem to get sound from either the PC speakers or the TV (not both).

That would be correct. When you plug headphones into your PC it mutes the internal speakers. Same rule applies when you connect it to any other audio device using the speaker/headphone jack.
How do I add a signature?

Another question but why is it that the sound to the TV only works when it's plugged through a usb/speaker jack adaptor - it doesn't work when plugged direct into any of the other jacks on the PC.

Why have you got this USB adaptor plugged in? if you remove it, and plug the 3.5mm into the line out/headphone jack on the laptop, that should work.
