Aldi's porridge is effectively cheaper in that case.

    Lidl porridge 500g 39p = 7.8p/100g
    Lidl porridge 1kg 78p = 7.8p/100g
    Aldi porridge 1kg 75p = 7.5p/100g
  • I was in my local branch of L!dl yesterday and they weren't stocking them yet. I've had to resort to @sda Sm@rt Price ones and they're oddly gluey in texture. Not unacceptable but not nearly as good imo.

I don't know if I'm making this up but it seems to me that L!dl often appear to withdraw some of their own brands when they have an offer on a manufacturer's competing product: as in Qu@ker (I think) oats at £1.50 a kilo which I hadn't noticed them stocking before. £1.50 is far too expensive for me, I resent being expected to pay nearly double.

Their own-brand mouthwash is missing from my branch at the moment as they've got an offer on some other brand right now.
  • Incidentally, I went to Tesco's Osterley Extra this afternoon and managed to find some Mornflake Superfast Oats though the ticket display on the shelf was showing the full price of £2.19 instead of the offer price of £1.50. I asked one of the shop assistance to check this, she returned after scanning a bag and told me they were on offer for £1.50. So if you see any displayed at the full price make sure to ask someone in store to check it if you have any doubts. I managed to get two and will be going back for more as soon as I can.

The best before end date is December 2012 by the way. The oats should also last well if you keep them in an airtight container, or just tie the bag they come in with a piece of string as I do which should be sufficient enough.
  • Tesco's have now dropped their price to 75p a kilo.
  • ASDA's Smartprice 1Kg Porridge Oats have also dropped to 75p as well.
  • My kids eat porridge most morning and prefer the Lidl ones by far, a much nicer texture apparently. (I wouln't know - I hate porridge, but I can tell you, they make yummy flapjacks!)

That reminds me of the time I went off porridge as a child, I would eat nothing else but Ready Break, I preferred the taste to be honest. My mum mustn't have had any left after a while or was trying to wean me off if due to the price and made me what I thought was Ready Break then told me after I ate it that it was actually porridge. She made it quite milky to make it appear like Ready Break, I couldn't even tell the difference. :D
  • I am afraid to say that Lidl in its divine wisdom and now that they are taking the customers off Morissons, Tesco have decided they should put the price of nearly everything up and removing some product from sale totally, the above mentioned porridge Oatilicious being one of them, no more little 500g red bags of porridge. Now lidl will happily sell you it in a cup like pot noodle or in a box of sachets which has 10 x27g, so now you get 270g for 99p....You don't need me to tell you that it now comes to £1.98 for something that cost 39p until last week...Its now cheaper to buy the brand leader Scots porridge oats as its only £1.79 ....Well played lidl peppers at a all time high, at 30p+ over usual for over 3 weeks+, muesli up 20p.
