Reclaiming PPI with no information

Hi there,
Apologies for adding to the long list of questions (and probably a repetition too!) but I've been looking at this forum and I'm still feeling a bit lost.
Basically I have had a number of loans and credit cards over the last 10 years that I think had PPI but I'm really not sure. I'm not one for keeping documents and I can't seem to find any of the old documents and even checking online I can't find any account numbers either.
Where do I start if I want to make a claim? Is it even worth doing if I haven't got the information. The companies I'm looking at are Barclays, Capital One, Egg & Welcome Finance.
Appreciate any help for the newbie...
