Job offer from the EU...

I have been unable to find relevent work in the UK since 2007, due to a major operation. My wife still works, where her salary is deducted from my Income Support, which is understandable... But our income would never be enough under normal circumstances, it is subsidised by our disabled son through child tax credits and DLA...
I have been offered a new job in europe but I will have to pay 42% tax whilst working there. They offer the same child tax credits and DLA as the UK but only if my family live with me there... But the problem is my wife refuses to leave with me, she has real problems looking after her parents, as well as refusing to take our son's out of school and college..
I really want this job, but is this another failure of the European Union???

Eh? What do you want the EU to do for you? Kidnap your wife and force her to move countries?Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Failure as in we should come out of the EU because of it? Well, if we did, you might not be eligible to work there at all.... I really want this job, but is this another failure of the European Union???Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you explain *why* you think it is a failure of the EU you will sound less like a mad insular Daily Mail reader and will be mocked less.
I strongly suggest that course of action.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
Do what they do to us....
Go work there and send your money home to your family.0 -
It sounds like your wife is the one with the sensible head on today! I would listen to her more & talk less. Really, maybe this is a wake up call.0

Are you sure the tax rate is 42% on all income?0 -
:(I am 45 years old now, and have worked all my life and payed all my taxes.... I hate sponging of the state and I need to work to keep my sanity, if nothing else.... But it is a shame that I have to go abroad to do it and break up my family... I work in the construction industry but all the jobs are taken up by cheap labour from eastern europeans and I can't afford to live for £7 per hour.....
Cameron is the right man to get the UK out of debt, that Labour and many EU states got us into.. The open market was a good idea, and still is, But europe is not one state!!!!
In reality, alot of the squeezed middle class will soon find themselves in the same position soon, good luck to you all..
By the way, Its Germany, I face the tax liability of a single man, as my family won't be joining.. and this means not getting the benefits such as tax credits, family allowance or DLA... and she will apply to the state as a single parent!!!! I see no other option apart from suicide...0 -
Better to earn £7 an hour than sponge off the taxpayer when you could get a job. Plenty of non east europeans still work in construction - like many of my clients. But they have trades and skills - don't you? If you are unskilled labour then yes, £7 an hour sounds fair to me.
Or at some point in the last 5 years you could have re-trained for something else more appropriate/available.
things are tough right now but few people are unemployed for 5 years if they make themselves employable.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

I'm still struggling to understand why you think the EU has failed simply because you can't persuade your wife to join you in Germany.
This is a very strange thread.0
